Alcoholism Statistics

In our music video one of the main themes in it is alcoholism. Our character is suggested to be an alcoholic due to the number of bottles on the side as well as pouring herself a drink and the number of glasses in the sink.

When deciding how we were going to put alcohol in our music video we decided that we would need to research alcoholism, we looked at how it effects people as well as the general patterns of alcoholism in the UK.

Our Music Video

These statistics show how our character is would be one of many people in the UK with a drinking problem. The statistics on alcohol show the general patterns of alcoholism in the UK. They also show how there is a increase on the number of alcohol related health problems.

The Health statistics show what potential damage can come from alcoholism such as liver and stomach cancer. This shows how our character is similar to everyone other person and has their own weaknesses.

By showing our character to have alcoholism, it indicates that she is a part of a group of people that are affected by alcoholism and that she herself, even though shown as 'famous' or 'a celebrity' she is still victim to humane addictions that cost the government and cost her health.

As part of our research into alcoholism we found that men overall drank more than women. We decided to show women  as people who drink too much as well in our video. We decided to do this because our main focus was women as our artist is a woman and the song itself is performed by a woman.

We also found that overall younger people were more likely to drink heavily as well. This was represented in our music video as our character is shown as a young adult which links to our target audience as well. Due to this we could have two responses; one being viewers drinking more because they have seen it in our video and the second being people seeing it as problem. The latter would be our preferred reading.

These set of statistics show how young people are affected by alcohol. This links to our video as our target audience is the ages of 15 to 25 and our artist is a young adult herself. We want to emphasise the problem of drinking for young people

These statistics act as a potential background for our artist as it say that almost half of young people excluded from school are regular drinkers. Some of these could make viewers feel a connection with our character, making people attracted to her as she as seen as normal and not a celebrity that they can't identify with.
