Summer Safety Tips

Always provide plenty of water for your pet.

Pets can get sunburned easily if they have pink skin or light colored hair. You can use pet safe sunscreen around the nose and ear area.

Pets shouldn't be allowed unsupervised outside on hot days even when in the shade. They can quickly become ill if they become overheated.

Watch out for Heatstroke!!

Heatstroke is a medical emergency

Symptoms include:

- Exaggerated panting
- Brick red gums
- Rapid heartbeat
- Unresponsive to commands & Surroundings
- High fever
- Vomiting

- Collapse

- Staring / anxious expression
- Warm / dry skin

NEVER LEAVE ANY PET IN AN AUTOMOBILE

On an 83 degree day, the temperature inside your car can reach 102 degrees in less then 10 minutes and 120 degrees in 30 minutes.

Avoid poisonous plants and chemicals

Toxic plants include:
- Rhododendron
- Hyacinth
- Ivy
- Azalea
- Easter Lily
- Oleander

- Yew
- Poinsettia

Certain fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides can be hazardous to pets.
Contact the manufacturers if you are unsure if the product is pet safe.

WATCH OUT FOR FLEAS, TICKS, AND MOSQUITOS!

No one wants a pet with heartworms, fleas, or a tick borne illness to ruin their summer! Always make sure to keep your pet on preventative!
