lessons of
THE FOUR agreements
THe Four Agreements
1. BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD
2. DON'T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY
3. DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS
4.ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST
1. be impeccable with your word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean.
Avoid using the word to speak against yourself, or gossip about others.
words have power!
WORDS HURT
words heal
words build trust
Words lose trust
our own words hurt us
don't do these things
- Don't gossip
- Don't put people down
- Don't bully people
- Break someones trust
- Break your word
When impeccable with your word
- You make lots of friends
- You make better friends
- You help make other people better
- You rarely hurt anyone
- People trust you/ are viewed as responsible
2. don't take things personally
""nothing that people do is about you, it's always about themselves.""
""Don't give people power over you.""
""When people don't believe the can do something, they tell you that you can't do it.""
""no one that accomplishes great things does so without CRITICISM""
if you Don't take things personally
- Understand that it is never about you.
- You will never give away your power.
- Rob people of the satisfaction of putting you down.
- You will be in control of how you feel.
- You will be capable of great things.
3. don't make assumptions
""Assumptions are a story we've told ourselves, or a story someone else has told us, that we take as truth, yet may be the farthest thing from it""
Assumptions are not fair to the other person involved
drama usually stems from assumptions
assumptions assume that others see the world as you do
assumption places blame before an explanation
when assuming you....
- Often look foolish
- Say hurtful things
- Are often the source of hurtful gossip
- Often are the creator of needless drama
- Lose credibility
4. Always do your best
“Under any circumstance, always do your best, no more and no less. But keep
in mind that your best is never going to be the same from one moment to the next. Everything
is alive and changing all the time, so your best will sometimes be high quality, and other times it
will not be as good."
your best doesn't mean always wining, but it does mean giving it all you have
do your best at the other three agreements
Just do your best – in any circumstance of your life. If you always do your best then there is no
way you can judge yourself. And if you don’t judge yourself there is no way you are going to
suffer from guilt, blame, and self-punishment. By always doing your best, you will break a big
spell that you have been under.
