There are four different ways to present a film opening to the specific audience. 

 

 

1) Titles on a black screen

2) Titles on still images

3) Titles on moving images

4) Titles over animation or motion 

1) TITLES ON A BLACK SCREEN

This is one of the most used technique in film openings, it isn't necessary for a film to be low budget. Whereas it depends on the genre at times too. Below are a few examples: 

2) TITLES ON STILL IMAGES.

Such film are  comparatively complex as they don't have a black and white frame at the back. On the other hand they do tell symbolise the film genre and also set the mood of the film. 

3) Titles over moving images

As it provides a depth in the story line of the movie so people use this technique more these days. 

4) Title scenes using animations

Such film opening techniques use a lot of editing and are a bit technical. To use such titles films should be high budget.

SUB CATEGORIES 

1) Narrative title sequence: These titles tells the audience about genre, location and characters about the film.

2) Discrete title sequence: This kind of title helps tell the give hints about the plot of the film.

3) Stylized title sequence: It is the mixture of the other two sub categories.
