Brainstorming has developed a fraught reputation (perhaps deservedly so).
When groups of people are thrown together and expected to come up with 'original' ideas, there is often too much pressure to be creative – resulting in ideas that are anything but.

The faulty assumption behind this question is that all parts of the idea must be new and never before seen. But original ideas are often composed of and inspired by things that already exist in the world—fragments that are all around us, waiting to be noticed and then reimagined in a new form.
