Uses of get

1. GET + NOUN

GET cambia de significado según el sustantivo que esté después:

 

  • Receive: Did you get a present for your Birthday?
  • Obtain: He got an award for bravery.
  • Buy: We have to get some extra milk.
  • Bring: Can you get my jacket, please?
  • Take: We get train to go to the stadium.

He got money from his father.

I'm going out to get some wine for the party.

Let me get you a drink.

You can get information at the bank office.

2. GET + ADJECTIVE

Cuando usamos GET seguido de un adjetivo indicamos un cambio o estado (start to be):


  • The couple was unhappy so they got divorced.
  • She got rich when she won the lottery.
  • He got confused when he looked at the map.
  • We got lost when we traveled to Paris.

Why did you get anxious?

3. GET TO + PLACE

Usamos GET para explicar que hemos llegado a algún lugar:

 

  • They got to the store and went shopping.
  • My manager gets to work at 8am every day.
  • I will get home after taking the bus.
  • When I got to the bus stop, I realized I forgot the keys.
