Wojciech Odrobina - How can you innovate in architecture?

Wojciech Oprobian comments that there is a very direct route that is that of the architectural object itself. I think that architects have always been concerned with this route. We like it, and it is almost innate in us.

In fact, it is difficult to find an architect who does not evolve in his way of doing architecture over time. That this evolution supposes a great innovation is another matter, but the attitude is there.

Here we could include various aspects of our way of doing architecture. Even some more linked to technology, such as the application of novel materials and construction systems, etc.

The technological advances of the digital age have completely changed the scenario in which the world of Architecture moves. The construction processes are overcoming unsuspected limits and the challenges presented by the 4.0 revolution are being met.

Wojciech Odrobina Aspect to innovate in Architecture

For example, rethinking how we relate to our customers. If we ask ourselves day by day how we do it and what results this has for the client, surely we will be able to begin to identify new needs or ways of doing different things to make life easier for them.

Every product under digital pressure mutates into service - Wojciech Odrobina

This impact of digital transformation has removed the foundations of the classic separation between product and service.
There are architecture professionals who are already offering some services in the form of packaged products, useful for their clients and direct.

Another open field is that of our processes. If we can innovate to improve our way of working, and translate that into value for the client, we will have a valuable differential element.

And there is more, almost anything that we can think of that allows us to create value. The question is to be really willing to do it, practice it day by day and have the will to do different things differently.

Wojciech Odrobina - Trends of Innovation in Architecture
Here are some examples of areas of architecture in which one is innovating in one way or another:

Wellness. The architectural environment at all scales has a decisive influence on the human being who inhabits it. This is leading to investigations in workspaces, hotels, commercial spaces, etc.

Sustainability. Here is a very large field. We can also mention some certification, but also the use of novel materials (straw) or different systems.

BIM. It will probably be a disruptive innovation in our sector, since it will change the way of managing projects, processes, etc.

Lean Construction. The application in architecture of operating methodologies that come from other areas can give very interesting results.

Society. Performance management systems with citizen participation, fight against gentrification processes, augmented reality, smart cities.

Large-scale use of data. As in any human activity, the data is going to be the oil of the 21st century. In architecture they can be used with a thousand applications, including some of the previous lines.
