Greetings

Respectfully living, working and playing on the traditional territories of the  Syilx/Okanagan nation

About me

  • Educator

Outline

  • Stakeholder needs

  • Review the EdMedia Program across 3 iterations

    • Version 1 (before times)

    • Version 2 (remote everything, ‘the blip’)

    • Version 3 (a new normal)

  • Lessons learned

Stakeholders needs

  • Faculty/Instructor literacy, purpose, process

  • Student engagement, accessibility, choice

Faculty/Instructor needs

  • building a literacy of media types, how they work together and the affordances of each

  • making appropriate media that suit the pedagogical choices considering learning outcomes. Looking at the PURPOSE of the media over the QUALITY

  • consider the production process including the skills and tools and resources such as time that are needed

Students needs

  • Flexible engagement - Clear learning goals that are relevant to each student. eg. a Visual Syllabus can be used to describe the flow and goals of the course.

  • Accessible representation -  What images are chosen, how are they displayed? Is there diversity in the representations technically and subjectively? eg.

  • Choices expression - Having choices how to present knowledge as well as the timing and schedule of that presentation benefits student learning.

Lessons Learned

  • Model best practices

  • Provide literacy across all topics

  • Access: Where are faculty starting and where do they need to go?

  • Tech: Do we know is learning taking place?

  • Contributions: Going beyond

  • Value: Students at the centre

  • Students need to to see themselves represented in the learning experience. It is up to instructors to deploy their technology and media in ways that afford this.

Thank you
