Installing a new Unity version

Why?

Why do we need to standardize on a particular version of Unity?

  • Unity frequently changes menus, rearranges components, etc., and you might as well learn the latest
  • I will make demo projects using the reference version
  • And you will need to work in pairs sometimes, which is easier if you are using the same version

If you already have a version of Unity installed on your computer, skip to this slide.

Otherwise, start on the next slide.

If you don't have Unity

Start at this link:

Unity Personal edition

Accept the ToS (consider reading it first) and click the button.

Download and install Unity Hub.

On Windows this will be a .exe

Run Unity Hub.

You may be asked to create a (free) Unity account. Use whatever email you like.

Go to this slide and follow the rest of the instructions.

If you already have Unity

Open Hub and click Installs

Choose Add

Choose a version.

Everything after 2021.2 doesn't matter.

This version!

On this screen you can add the ability to build for other platforms. Make sure you can build for Windows, Mac is optional.

You're Finished
