What happens if A professor suspects that A student is plagiarizing on an individual or group project?

1

The professor will first try to verify their suspicions by comparing the submitted text to several different sources.

2

If suspicions are confirmed, the professor will send the work to the administrative director  of the program while also explaining why (s)he suspects that plagiarism has occurred.

Once a professor has confirmed plagiarism, he no longer has any say in the matter and no direct negotiations between the student(s) and professor is possible.

3

The administrative director will quickly inform the student(s) concerned that they are the focus of an internal investigation regarding possible plagiarism.

4

The administrative director and the professor responsible for pedagogical integrity at HEC Montreal will meet to evaluate the case.

5

The student(s) concerned will be informed of the decision reached and what, if any, sanctions will be imposed.

6

Students have the right to appeal the decision via the sub-committee of the program committee.

7

The decision of the sub-committee is final and cannot be appealed.
