Google Drive Basics

Google Drive

Shared Folders/Files:

  • Create folders for each class and share specific docs and folders with students
    • Only documents/folders shared will be visible to students under "Shared with Me" section
  • Students can upload to shared Drive folders or simply view an assignment

What can I do? So many great things!

Drive: Option One

Daily Journal

  1. Create folder for Daily Journal with your instructions document within class folder
  2. Share folder with students and set to "can edit" so they may upload (this will not allow them to edit instructions doc or others' work)
  3. Direct students to open their Drive and ensure folder is accessible (see Student View photo below)
  4. Students will upload their specific document to folder which can then be viewed by you
  5. For comments on docs to be made, student must set file share to "can edit"

Drive: Option Two

Class Survey

  1. Create class survey or sign-up for events within Drive
  2. Select New > More > Google forms
  3. A new tab will open allowing you to select various options of form style, question/response type
  4. Change Theme, View Responses and Live form are all available for previewing
  5. Review confirmation settings to direct scholars to additional steps or information
  6. You will see both the survey and response form in your Drive (Students can complete via shared link)

End of Class

Steps all scholars should take as they exit a class after using Chromebooks.

  1. Complete document edits and bookmark any tabs needed for later
  2. Lock device and close if expected to use within 3-5 hours
  3. Shut down device if not being used for more than 5 hours (overnight, etc)
  4. Place Chromebook inside case for safe transport (all students must have)

ACTION: Sign out of this device and shut down (~1 minute)
