Our Charge with 1:1

What is 1:1?

  • Digital learning: wide spectrum of meanings under technology in the classroom
  • One device per child can mean...
    • Classroom cart
    • BYOD
    • School provided
    • Student purchased

What is success in 1:1?

  • Innovation and integration
  • Teacher understanding and investment- belief in the devices and in the program
  • 2:05-2:50 Passaic High School

"How could technology be utilized to improve learning?" -Dr. Mike Webb, UCPS

Integration and Innovation

  • Student success in collaborative, project-based learning forming independent thinkers, responsible young adults
  • New Technology High School integrates all subjects, pulling together the collective knowledge of students
  • With technology at every students' fingertips, a laptop is another tool in the belt of knowledge

“You know how to use the technology and you know what it’s good for.”- Peter Abboud, NTHS

Potential Roadblocks

  • Money and resources do not equal success
  • Lack of investment:
    • All levels from students to administration must understand the mission of 1:1
  • Lack of innovation:
    • Using technology to solely type or complete state tests
  • Lack of training or support:
    • Faculty and staff must feel supported in closing knowledge gaps and confident in their ability to coach students

"Without a great educator in the classroom, a PC is nothing more than an expensive paperweight."- Chad A. Stevens, CDW-G

Immediate Future

  • What does 1:1 mean for RePublic? What can we message to our stakeholders?
  • Foundational skill building in all courses and campuses
    • Typing
    • Organization
    • Care
  • Leverage what is being done and thought of intuitively to propel forward even further

Opportunities Ahead

  • All ages exposure to technology
  • Access to resources and support from other schools and each other
  • Blank slate to build off
    • High school traditions
    • Trends in teaching and learning
    • World is our oyster!

Our students...

  • Will leave RePublic Schools with the skills to succeed in college and the world
    • beyond content knowledge
    • beyond coding
  • Will know how to independently and responsibly manage a device in an integrated environment
    • At home
    • At school
    • For work
    • For fun
