No. The PDF is read in your browser with pdf.js. Your file never leaves your device.
- How are headings detected?

Lines set noticeably larger than the body text become headings. The largest size becomes
#, the next##and so on. - What about tables and images?

Tables come through as plain lines of text and images are skipped. PDFs don't store tables as tables, so they can't be rebuilt reliably.
- What does "Separate pages with ---" do?

It puts a
---line between pages, which the Markdown to presentation converter treats as a new slide.
