Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in progression from it to full product?
Preliminary Task
My preliminary task required a much more basic list of shots and techniques compared to my opening sequence. I learnt to use the 180 degree rule as well as techniques such as match on action in order to create a more diverse and interesting product.
I aimed to create a well flowing story which was understandable and easy for the audience to follow. I also learnt the importance of using the correct shot for each scene. If I wanted to show emotion I learnt to use an extreme-closeup to capture all that happens on a characters face.
Preliminary Task
In this shot we can see that I used an establishing shot in my preliminary sequence in order to help set the scene.
In this shot from my preliminary task we can see the use of a close-up in order to capture the emotion on the characters face.

Opening Sequence
The process of creating an opening sequence was much more detailed and demanding than that of the preliminary task. I was required to use a much larger range of shots and techniques in order to create a professional looking title sequence for a beginning of a film.
I also had to carefully select a soundtrack which fit my selected genre which was action/thriller. I ended up finding a tense and minimalistic piece of music which flowed at a steady pace and gradually built in volume. By editing the speed to fit my shots speeds, as the music got louder and built up, the shots became more tense.
Opening Sequence
This screenshot shows the use of a hand-held shot in my opening sequence. This type of shot is more complicated to film as it requires the carrying of all the cameras and equipment while in my case trekking over rough terrain.
This screenshot shows me editing my shots in order for them to be in time with the soundtrack. This process is very time consuming however creates a professional result.

Preliminary Task
Characters and Script
My preliminary task consists of two male characters. The older male is in his late thirties whereas the younger male is in his late twenties. The two characters only share a business relationship. The script of the film is based around the younger character picking up a special case from his boss (the older character) and bringing the case to its delivery point. The film ends on a cliff hanger just as the younger character arrives at the packages destination.
Opening Sequence
Characters and Script
My opening sequence has three male characters. Two of the characters are illegal immigrants from Mexico trying to enter America with the help of the third character, the Coyote, of whom works to smuggle people across the Mexico/America border. The script of the film is based around the experiences and troubles the two Mexicans go through in order to enter America. The whole film is based on a true story.
Conclusion
Trough planning, filming and editing both my preliminary task and my opening sequence I have learnt a lot of knowledge on what is required when making a film to a high standard. The use of fewer shots in the preliminary task allowed me to focus on understanding the techniques to a much greater depth. This then greatly helped me when filming my opening sequence as I was better able to implement these techniques into my final product.
