Who would be the audience for your Media Product?

Question 4:

Demographics

Ciaran Ahern

Age:

We felt the most suitable age range was teenagers to young adults between the ages of 15-24 as these are the people who will enjoy the adrenaline. Therefore a zombie film, with lots of gore, action and scares should satisfy their tastes. We thought the images may be too disturbing for a child and the movie may be to fast passed for an older adult.

Gender:

Our Film is aimed primarily at a male audience as they will be more intrigued by the action. We feel that some female viewers may feel the blood and gore too overwhelming and therefore they may not like it as much as the male audience.

Ethnicity:

Although we don't feel any ethnic group will be put off/dislike this movie, we feel that it is directed towards a white British audience as the film is based around 3 white British protagonists and is set in Britain.

Demographics

 Jack Gathern

Class:

The social class that our film falls into is group 6 (Semi Routine Occupations) and 7 (Routine Occupations). People at the age of 15-17 will either be unemployed or have part time jobs. This means that they may have the money to go and watch the film at the cinema, if it was offered. Also, at the age of around 20, people maybe starting their professions which mean they will be towards the bottom of their professions.

Sexuality:

Our film is situated around three straight characters. As a result of this a straight and niche audience will be the ones who are attracted to the film. If there was a gay protagonist on screen, there would then be an incentive for gay niche audience to go and view the film.

Location:

Our film is based around 3 south-eastern English protagonists and therefore may have a larger appeal to south-eastern England, however as they are coming back from a camping trip, they will have to have been in a more rural area so could appeal to a more rural audience as lots of the film could feature places they know making it relatable to the viewer.

Demographics

Ciaran Ahern & Jack Gathern

Our film has a niche audience because we learnt, from our research into target audience, that most horror films have a niche audience as their main purpose is to play on its audiences fears, therefore it needs to target a specific group of people to use certain conventions that group may find disturbing.

BBFC rating

Harry Gunner

From our research of BBFC, we decided to give our film the age rating of classification 15 due to the restrictions the BBFC apply. No one under 15 is allowed to see a 15 film at the cinema or buy a 15 rated video. 15 rated works are not suitable for children under 15 years of age. At 15 violence may be strong. It should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury and the strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. there can be strong threat and horror as long as there is no sustained focus on sadistic or sexualised threat. There is no upper limit on the number of uses of strong language.
Occasionally there may be uses of the strongest terms depending on the manner in which they are used, who is using the language, its frequency and any special contextual justification. However, continued or aggressive use will not normally be passed 15.
