Conventions of a pop music video

Clothing

The clothing in pop videos is usually always very bright and upbeat. But some artist decide to use original quite strange clothing. This is really to try to get an image so when you think of an artist you think of there strange clothing.  

Lighting

The lighting in pop videos is usually bright with white backgrounds or a background that will contrast with them making them easily visible this is usually so you can really see the artist and make sure that he or she is the main focus. Although sometimes it will be dim with a spotlight this is usually depending on what the lyrics are like.

The artist is always the main focus throughout the music video. No matter what shot they appear in they will always be the main focus when in shot.

Pop videos and songs are usually very up beat and fun. They are not usually about serious topics and are usually listened to kids as they usually make up the charts.    

Usually very illustrative 

Pop music videos usually make up a story that the lyrics are making up. This is seen very regularly as pop songs usually tell a story. A lot of the time they are love songs or about ex partners.   

Artists are usually portrayed as happy 

The artists in pop songs are usually portrayed as happy and very smiley. This is usually to follow how the lyrics are but also the director  represent how the artist wants the public and the audience to look at them. They may want the audience to think that they are a happy person in general.
