CompCon!

Multimedia & Design Workshop for Panel Presentations

CompCON!, is a series of panel presentations where YOU as a student share, interact, and perform for your audience (instructor, fellow classmates, visitors) connected to the research you've done this semester on your discourse community project. This is your chance to show off your project in a variety of ways during your scheduled panel - you will receive credit based on level of participation, Q&A, interactive components, and audience members will take notes and engage as well. This is the week where YOU get to highlight your project in style!

Purpose & Function

  • During your panel, be prepared for the following:
    • Have your Ipad, Laptop, or other device ready to show off data visuals, visual evidence, and materials you've made for your project.
    • Prepare a handout, promotional material, or advertisement for your discourse community.
    • Be prepared for Q&A with attendees.
    • Have an interactive component with the attendees: e.g. game, code to scan for a survey, demonstration, etc.)
    • Bring in Physical Artifacts - Poster/materials your discourse community uses, physical items to show n'tell.

  • On the days you do NOT present, each day you will engage in meaningful interaction with your peers and for the purpose of submitting the CompCon! Self-Assessment and Interaction assignment:
    • Be respectful and engaged with your classmate's panel, materials, demonstrations, or other content.
    • Participate in each panel - Don't hog all of the space for one panel but get around to others.
    • These are like mini-showcases with discussion, show n' tell and interactive elements, so DON'T GO OFF IN A CORNER BY YOURSELF SOMEWHERE!

Panel Workshop Day 2

In groups today, we will interact with classmates who have very different discourse communities and ideas for their panels. Based on ideas and work from Monday, engage in the following:

  • Everyone share how they are producing content/activities for their panel showcase. - Read Posts & Discuss.
  • Take turns and each person in the group come up with a potential question you have at this stage in their research or pre-panel question - you can leave this in our discussion thread.
  • Once ready, I will open up the Group Debugging Form Survey for you to take.
  • Be sure to greet your attendees! Be prepared to share your content in multiple ways for your audience and anticipate questions!
  • Workshop Materials: Use class time to design more visuals, slides, outline how you will present, what kind of interactive or demonstration element will you have?
  • Physical artifacts/objects: How will you share content that is important to your D.C.?

Show N' Tell - While interacting in your groups today, get feedback on something you've created or an idea you have for your panel. Leave a comment in our week discussion thread - Panel Workshop Day 2
