Production and Distribution Companies

The distribution company we decided to use in the titles of our own teen movie is Fox Searchlight Pictures, an American film distribution company that’s a part of the Fox Entertainment group. Our title sequence is based on the teen sub-genre of high school. We created our very own production company, which we called “A Candi Films Production". It was created and used to show a broader use of production.

Rizwana researched on the types of companies that distribute high school teen drama films. She discovered Fox Searchlight Pictures, a film distribution company. As a group, we discussed and decided Fox Searchlight Pictures would be the company to distribute our film. Rizwana’s research on Fox Searchlight Pictures tells us that it’s an American film distribution company within the Fox Entertainment Group. Moreover, it’s a sister company to the larger Fox studio 20th Century Fox. This company is best for distributing our production because it has distributed quite a few high-school teen drama films and over the years, such as “Juno”. Juno focuses on an offbeat main female character faced with an unplanned pregnancy and the weird decision she makes.

Why is Fox Searchlight Pictures best suited to distribute our film?

Fox Searchlight Pictures is best suited for distributing our film because it has distributed many films with narratives and a story-line very similar to our teen drama film. We created our own production company, “A Candi Films Production”, to show our audience that we used a wide range of production. We want our film to be both a theatrical release and digital release. This is because it will first be shown in theatres mostly because it has just been released and needs time to become more popular. Eventually, after our film becomes more popular it will be released and distributed to our audience on DVD. Fox Searchlight films are usually showcased and screened in cinemas & theatres. This means Fox Searchlight Pictures is a good choice to distribute our film because it would allow our film to become more popular and well known over time.

The impact on our title sequence

We made a high school drama title sequence and used two companies for the production and distribution of our film. This has had a huge impact on the production of our title sequence. Our title credits were most affected because there are more titles in our title sequence. Our title sequence includes more than one company for the production and distribution of our film. “A Candi Media Film” was created and used for production, whilst “Fox Searchlight Pictures” was used to distribute our film. This meant we had more titles, which ultimately meant our title sequence was longer in length because we had a number of titles, including the production and distribution companies. Moreover, the fact we included more than one company shows our film has a lot of depth because a lot of production went into our film. We looked at the film “Mean Girls”, and discovered the company that distributed it - Paramount Pictures, a mainstream distribution company. Mean Girls is a mainstream film which means it’s very popular worldwide because it’s distributed by a major company, Paramount. Paramount has a huge budget and can put much more production into a film. This means that Mean Girls has much more title credits in the opening scene because more production was put into it. Likewise, our film is supported by a mainstream company and contains a lot of titles, and so our audience can easily understand what type of company is supporting our film (e.g. major or independent), what type of film it is, and the sub-genre they are watching.
