Future
Who are they?
With 180 magazines focused on a variety of interests spanning from technology, video games, photography and many more, Future plc is a media publishing company that is more commonly known for being the official magazine company for major game consoles.
Company history:
After being founded by Chris Anderson (who is also known for establishing TED conferences), Future was the first magazine to ever feature free software on a magazine cover. The company was sold in 1994 for £52.7 Million before being bought back in 1998 for £142 Million. Anderson left Future in 2001.
Ever since then, the company has suffered from a loss of 61% in profits in 2009 - primarily due to the US advertising market. In addition to this, the company also sold its music-media brands such as Guitar World in 2012. Recently, they also announced the closure of their US print publication offices in order to shift their operations to the UK.
Examples of their publications include:
- Nintendo
- XBOX
- T3
- SFX
- Playstation
- PC Gamer
- FutureMusic
FutureMusic
What is
FutureMusic
About?
FutureMusic focuses on music production, sharing its audiences the latest technology and technique in making music. It is quite evident that its target audience will be towards those who are "technical" and into the science of creating music, unlike the likes of Kerrang! which are more concerned in music culture rather industry. The graphic visual content featured on the front cover goes well with the magazine's content - which is simply an abundance of information regarding about reviews in studio technique, software and many more!
Playstation
The Playstation magazine is focused on the gaming culture - although it will be likely to only feature Playstation or Sony products instead of other brands. Its target audience is more inclined towards the male demographic with no limit to age, as this is a gender that will be more inclined to a magazine such as this (though it can be argued that females may also be interested in it, however they are a minority compared to the whole audience). The cover features information about gadgets and games which will appeal and interest gamers.
