What does it mean?

DATA GAP

*Although when mapping, the criteria may it seems objective, decisions such as what to map or not, what qualitative information to add, etc. is a personal choice, and therefore is subjective and may change. That is why it is necessary that more women collaborate in OSM, and to have the chance to give  our point of view, and to provide information/data that  perhaps men never would think about, but is indeed important for us and  may be useful for other women.

MAPPING and Tagging

WOMEN Facilities

INTERNATIONAL GENDER REPRESENTATION SURVEY ON OSM

  • sexist tone in the channels demotivates participation

  • Women feel a systematic target of discrimination in channels

  • Attention calls are usually attacked (if they are women)

  • women are systematically considered as novice

  • need to define codes

  • Specific calls to empower women

  • Promotion of women networks and spaces

  • Peer-to-peer training

  • Attention to mapping-projects issues with impact on women

  • Discrimination is not based on gender

  • Cultural domination of European / North American men

  • Hostility by specific profile: fanatic-mapper, experimented VS novice

  • No formal impediment to participate = no discrimination

  • Lack of interest/participation must be respected

  • Doubts on the impact in the map, of the lack of diversitY

  • Attention calls about agressive tone in the channels are ignored

  • Do not separate genders but do more participatory activities

  • Focus activities on diversity in general, not just gender
