Mahmuda begum

What have you learned from

the preliminary task to the final product?

From the  preliminary  task I have learned how to find a story that will appeal to my audience and also how to make the script short and simple so it doesn't have too much information but has important parts in it to appeal to the audience. I also know the difference between interview, voxpop and outside broadcast  which will help me to apply to my story. I have learnt how to speak  clearly and use the right tone to present my story. I learnt have to edit the recording and find a suitable background music for it.  I applied everything I learned in the preliminary task to the final product to ensure it sounds good.

How to make a Blog

First of all I have learned how to make and use a blog which I didn't know before and this has become easier to do as I know how to upload different types of presentations on there and how to use an embed code to paste on to my blog if i did a presentation online.

News & Local news

I also have learned what News is and what local news is after I put in my own understanding of it then researching it to find the actual meanings of it which wasn't far off from my understanding of it this was an important concept in our coursework to know the difference between them as we are doing local news for our radio station. For example news is information about happenings by newspapers, radios etc. and local news refers to news coverage of events in a local area.

Hard News & Soft News

I also learned the difference between hard news which is about crime and soft news is about entertainment.

The history of the Radio

I researched the history of radio and read how it was first invented and also how it has changed and become more modernized till this day. It was invented in 1893 with two people. I also learned about the BBC which was formed in 1922 it was local radio station then became a worldwide radio station which is very popular and in use to this day.

New technology

I learned about how new technology has improved radio like the DAB-digital audio broadcaster which makes it easier to access radio anywhere you go such as on portable devices like smart phones. The radio design has also improved which can attract people to buy it and its much easier to use also.

Microphones

I also researched how microphones work because I was interested in it and how there are different types of it which are used for different purposes. I learnt that they are a Transducer device as they convert sound waves to electrical energy. The different microphones include liquid microphones which was the first ever microphone made.

Interview

If I needed to an interview I just thought I’d research how to plan for one and how it should be structured. Such as asking a few questions to not make it too long or bore the interviewee. I researched how to sound clear also as this will help me when I record for my station which is key as the audience will want to hear it properly. I also learnt other types of methods thatI can use to get views from people such as Voxpop and Audio broadcasting.

Radio regulators

  • I learned about Ofcom and how they regulate different electronic communications including radio stations such has making sure people are protected and treated fairly.
  • RAJAR is a radio joint audience research in charge of measuring audiences in the UK.
  • PSB is a public service broadcaster which makes sure that radio stations benefit the public.
  • Commercial radio generates income by selling air time to companies which are filled with commercial advertisements.

Journalism Code of ethics

I learnt that journalists need to follow the code of ethics when they are writing news such as seek truth and minimize harm. This will make them good journalists and will prevent them from breaking any rules. This helped me when I was finding and gathering news because I knew what to follow.

Rupert Murdoch & The Leveson Inquiry

This was a case study on someone breaking the journalism code of ethics and what the consequence was as a result which was closing down a newspaper company. This made me realize how important the code of ethics are.

Radio news styles

I researched how to make a radio script sound good such as clarity and to get the tone right. I also learned what you must do and what you shouldn't do such as not to promote your own judgement's which I took into account when writing my story.

Survey

I learned how to make online surveys on a website called survey monkey which has helped me to gain understanding on what other people think of the radio. I have used the link to send it to my friends on my social networking site so they can gain access to it and do the survey there. I have been able to analyse it and from there work out what I need to do to make my radio the best for teenagers.

Preliminary task

For our preliminary task me and my partner made a script for a short broadcast for our radio  station. After that we had to record it and then upload and edit it. This made me learn what radio stations need to do to get a news out to their audience. For editing we used Audacity I have already had experience with this software so it wasn't really hard to do.

Planning

We had to research news stories from our local area that we could use for our radio station. It took time to find the perfect one but after we did  we had to take a different approach to the story so it wasn't written the same as the news. I decided to interview 3 people that the story could affect. We also had to do a risk assessment which we wrote on our blogs.
