My Participation with PYLC in Detail

My time in PYLC

I began volunteering for PYLC, Porier Youth Leadership Committee, about two years ago, September 2015. By being a member of this leadership group, I have learned many different skills to create a successful event. Some of the skills I have learned include, how to be organized, manage time, talk to sponsors, and communicate. PYLC is one of my major commitments, as I must be available for a major event monthly, come to weekly meeting, and be available for any spontaneous volunteer work dates.

Explaining my Hours in More Depth

For the next few slides, I will be explaining what I did during the hours that I have logged on my Graduation Transitions sheet.

October 27,2016

On this day, I worked to finalize the event plans for the next day for an event called "Howlween" . For this event, I was in charge of creating and performing a dance routine for young children in preschool. With my group of four people, we worked to find the right music and the right dance moves for our audience to follow. Additionally, we were in charge of finding lively songs for the children to listen to while they interacted in different stations.

October 28, 2016

As a committee, PYLC has been planning the "Howlween" event for several weeks to make it an enjoyable night for children to interact in fun Halloween activities, while in costume. On the day of the event, my group experienced some small problems. For example, two of the members in our group did not arrive on the day of the event. This meant that our dance was not going to go as planned. So with one other member, we worked together to make tweaks in our performance to ensure that it would run smoothly. For the rest of the night, we entertained the children with music and dance. Our station had become the most popular by the end of the night.

November 10, 2016

On this day, as a committee, we worked to discuss the pros and cons from the last event, which was the "Howlween" event. Additionally, we began preparation for our next major event, which is was "Skating with Santa". We started our preparations by organizing ourselves into different groups. By the end of the meeting, I had joined the food group for the event.

On this day, my group worked to finalize the event plans for "Skating with Santa" . For this event, I was in charge of creating a list of ingredients we required for the event and an appropriate budget. With my group, we worked to find the right recipes to feed the youth at the event. Additionally, as a commitee we were all responsible for signing up more than two people for the event, which ensured that we would have an appropriate number.

December 16, 2016

As a committee, PYLC has worked extremely hard to make sure that our "Skating with Santa" event would run smoothly. This event was directed at youth, as a way for them to have fun while moving around at a low price. In my group, we mainly stayed in the kitchen for the whole night preparing food for the crowd of people that arrived. We prepared platters of fruit and vegetables, fondue, cake, and cookies. Additionally, some people in our group were to serve the food to the youth.

On this day, we finalized the last details for the "Dinner & Movie" event occuring the next day. Like the last event, I was involved in the food group once again. I ensured that our food list was up to date and under our budget. Additionally, I created an event page on Facebook, which advertised to people online.
