Carol Vernallis is known for her theory on the editing in music videos and its narrative.
She claims that the usual rules of continuity editing is broken to draw attention to what is on screen. This is usually very different to what is seen in TV as it has a different style.

- Speed manipulation
- Cutting with the lyrics
- Breaking of 180 degree rule
Narrative
Carol describing her theory in the narrative aspect, suggesting that MV's are a visual response to the narrative. However, in music videos the narrative is not always complete. Meaning that the video can be disjointed, disconnected and appear in fragments.
