Darbhanga of Bihar has emerged as the commercial hub of Mithila region. The large expansion of the city has placed it right beneath Muzaffarpur, the neighboring city and old business hub. The city is 140 kms from the capital of Bihar - Patna and one of the premier cities along with Bhagalpur, Muzaffapur.

Raj Era Heritages

Darbhanga city was ruled by Khandavala and Oinwaars dynasty kings. The last king of Darbhanga – Kameshwar Singh also represented India in Upper House of India. The traces of Raj era can be seen in city with many beautiful palaces, temples and lakes.

Maithil Culture 

The huge impact of Maithil culture can be witnessed in Darbhanga which was once a part of ancient Mithila region ruled my mythological king Janak. Maithili is the most popular language although most people can understand Hindi . The city was also the artistic ground of legendry poet ‘Vidyapati’. 

Emerging Economy

In the past decade, the city of Darbhanga has witnessed several changes in terms of development. The low crime rate, uninterrupted electricity and better road and rail connectivity has brought bigger investments in the field of hospitality, health and retail segments of the town economy.

After long period of chaos and corruption, Darbhanga saw a rapid development in the field of road, rail and air connectivity. The rail and road network connects the city to most of the urban centers of development in India.

In 2020, the city is getting air connectivity with Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. The  Airport is named ‘Kavi Vidyapati’  airport. Flight operator- Spicejet has recently announced Darbhanga airport timetable and fare for the flights to Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. A planetarium is also undergoing construction which will provide recreation and educational center. 

Educational Institutions

Darbhanga town is rich in terms of educational institutions. It has universities like Lalit Narayan Mithila University(LNMU), Kameshwar Singh Sanskrit University and Darbhanga Medical College for medical study. Another premier medical institution AIIMS is also underdevelopment which intends to facilitate education and health services.
