COMPANY INFO

Nova combines proprietary drone technology with cinematic storytelling to create Sky Stories for audiences around the world. For more than a decade, we have pioneered this medium, producing narrative experiences told through precisely synchronized drones, visual design, and music.

We are also pleased to announce that Nova and SKYMAGIC have joined forces, bringing two world-class drone show pioneers under one roof. This strategic alliance unites over 25 years of combined experience and industry-leading technology to design and deliver unprecedented, high-impact aerial spectacles globally.

Originating from the original Intel drone light show division, which launched the first large-scale drone shows in 2012, Nova remains the category leader in drone entertainment. Today, that engineering foundation is part of our fully vertically integrated model. We design and manufacture our own drones and bring together research & development, hardware engineering, flight software, permitting and regulatory expertise, creative development, and show operations under one roof. This end-to-end approach gives Nova the ability to turn ambitious creative concepts into extraordinary, reliable, and repeatable experiences at scale.

SKYMAGIC were one of the worlds first Drone Light show companies in the world originally building its system in 2014 and being part of the wider NEWSUBSTANCE Group of Companies. Similar to Nova it has been a pioneer in this space leading the field in the development of pyro drones, the world's first laser drone and more recently smoke screen drones.

Merging Nova’s high-resolution, optimized drone platforms with SKYMAGIC's specialized pyro and laser-equipped drones will unite both companies' distinct technological and creative strengths, unlocking a completely new tier of hybrid high-fidelity multi-dimensional visual effects in the night sky.

ZAYED NATIONAL MUSEUM GRAND OPENING

A Modern Cultural Milestone

On December 2, 2025, the 54th UAE National Day, the Zayed National Museum opened on Saadiyat Island with a major nighttime event celebrating Sheikh Zayed’s life and legacy. Set against Norman Foster’s falcon-wing architecture, the inauguration featured live music from the UAE National Orchestra alongside historical projections onto the museum walls. The highlight was a synchronized performance by 6,000 LED-emitting drones—one of Nova's largest displays to date.

The fleet formed 3D patterns, falcon wings, typography, and national symbols, illustrating themes of unity, resilience, and ambition. The spectacle established the museum as a landmark and set a benchmark for heritage-led cultural events in the Gulf region.

VATICAN JUBILEE CONCERT

The Vatican Lights Up the World

To celebrate the Catholic Church’s Jubilee Year, Nova Sky Stories launched Europe’s largest drone display over St. Peter’s Square, uniting 250,000 live spectators and millions watching globally. Accompanied by Andrea Bocelli and Teddy Swims singing "Amazing Grace," alongside performances by Pharrell Williams, John Legend, and Jennifer Hudson, 3,000 drones illuminated the night sky. The light show recreated Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam and Pietà directly above the Basilica for the first time in history. The fleet also formed a glowing portrait of Pope Francis, halos crowning the architecture, 3D hearts, doves of peace, and the word "JOY."

By executing this massive aerial performance over a UNESCO World Heritage site, Nova demonstrated flawless precision, strict safety, and deep cultural sensitivity on a global stage.

TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC GAMES

Drones Soar at the Opening Ceremony

During the Tokyo 2020 Opening Ceremony on July 23, 2021, 1,824 Intel drones transformed the night sky into a vast three-dimensional canvas, integrating technology directly into the event's artistic narrative. Following the Athletes’ Parade, the precisely choreographed aircraft shifted through intricate geometric patterns before morphing into the blue-and-white Tokyo 2020 emblem. The icon then transformed into a giant floating globe hovering above the stadium, serving as the visual center of the show.

This floating Earth became the emotional centerpiece as the ceremony transitioned into a powerful rendition of "Imagine," arranged by Hans Zimmer and performed by artists including John Legend and Keith Urban. Rather than treating the flight as a standalone visual effect, the creative team used the sky as an expanded stage to communicate a message of global connection and hope to millions of viewers worldwide.

TROLL 2 NETFLIX

The Awakening of a Norse Legend

SKYMAGIC lit up Holmenkollen, Oslo for the premiere of Netflix’s Troll 2. Inspired by the record-breaking original film, the colossal Troll rose from the mountainside and roared into the valley toward onlookers below. The Troll 2 title then erupted before a snow-inspired burst formed the classic Netflix “N”. Delivered with Ocean Outdoor Norway and Netflix Nordics, the show quickly gained national coverage from outlets including TV2 and NTB. As Norway’s largest ever drone show, it was visible across Oslo and sparked widespread public curiosity.

SKYMAGIC led all aerial content capture in partnership with Upper Cut Productions Ltd - showcasing the Troll, which stood taller than Big Ben, in striking detail against the wintry Norwegian landscape.

DAVID HOCKNEY X BRADFORD 2025

Painting the Sky with a Pop Art Legend

For Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture, SKYMAGIC presented Painting the Sky, a drone performance honouring David Hockney in his hometown of Bradford. Bringing Hockney’s vibrant portfolio out of the gallery, 600 drones reinterpreted iconic masterpieces - including A Bigger Splash and his 2021 Self Portrait - over the historic Salts Mill and Roberts Park. Beyond the live show, SKYMAGIC utilised long-exposure photography to recreate Garrowby Hill through light painting. By meticulously calculating drone flight paths, they captured the painting’s signature rolling fields and winding roads in a single frame, captured by photographer William Turner. This collaboration stands as a brilliant tribute to Hockney’s inquisitive spirit and lasting artistic legacy.

POKÉMON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024

Catching Waves in Hawaii

SKYMAGIC were invited back for our second year to perform at the Pokémon World Championship, held in 2024 in Hawaii. Over a span of 4 days, the “Dazzling Skies with Pikachu & Friends” show illuminated the skies over Waikiki Bay for the very first time as the largest drone light show to date in Hawaii. From Pikachu riding the waves on a Mantyke, to Dragonite soaring over the beachfront and a delightfully confused Psyduck, the magic of Pokémon was brought to life in the Hawaiian night sky.

We are thrilled our collaboration not only brought a variety of fan favourite Pokémon to life but also created a captivating performance that engaged the audience, championship goers, and the general public alike in a game of “Who’s that Pokémon” from the beach between scenes.

SOUNDSTORM 2024

A Rhythm Driven Pixel Odyssey

SKYMAGIC created two unique shows for Soundstorm 2024, flying across three nights of the music festival above the Big Beast Stage. The show concepts took inspiration from 8-bit aesthetics, immersing festivalgoers in a pixel heaven.  The first show, “Storm Games”, transported audiences into a nostalgic arcade world where retro games collided with a playful twist of music and technology. The second show, “Rhythm of the Cosmos”, followed a space explorer discovering music as the universal language that connects all life.

In addition to designing the drone display, SKYMAGIC also led the design of screen content, pyro and laser choreography, and soundtrack curation. SKYMAGICs’ pyro drones created spectacular hero-moments that captivated the festival audiences.

D-DAY 80TH ANNIVERSARY

Tribute to the Fallen

Working hand-in-hand with the BBC Studios team, we developed the concept that the collective memory of the audience was drawing historic moments through time into our present. Leaning to an ethereal visual language, the design of this poignant tribute echoed the final moments of loved ones, spitfires soaring, and battleships crossing the oceans 80 years ago to the day. The heartfelt interviews with veterans, captured by the BBC Studios Events team, brought tears to eyes, whilst the exquisite audio design by Simon Haw MBE, enriched by his own military experience, added a deeply sensitive and sincere touch to the composition.

SKYMAGIC are truly grateful to have been asked to contribute to commemorating the bravery and sacrifices of those who took part in one of history’s most pivotal moments.

ZAYED INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Landing an A380

SKYMAGIC teamed up with People&Co. and Emmy award-winning director, Mark A. Ritchie, to orchestrate our single most complex and ambitious drone show to date. In a piece of ground-breaking cinematography, SKYMAGIC landed a 3-dimensional A380 plane on the North Runway of the newly renamed Zayed International Airport, in Abu Dhabi.

A team of 17 pilots flew 1750 swarm drones and 6 camera drones – alongside a ground camera team – in a series of short flight windows to capture this spectacular feat, in collaboration with operational teams at the airport. The falcon’s journey has been broadcast far and wide across the Middle East, celebrating Zayed International Airport. This feat was the AV Awards 'Entertainment Technology Project of the Year' Winner.

LONDON NEW YEAR'S EVE 2024

Blowing Bubbles Over the Thames

SKYMAGIC worked closely with Identity to create magical drone moments at the strike of midnight, as part of the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. As crowds lined the Thames, the show kicked off with a swirling portal, counting down to midnight amidst the stars. George The Poet’s words amplified the eco-message of our drone dandelion, as seeds rode the unseen wind. ‘What a Wonderful World’ echoed across London alongside the whimsical vision of a carefree child blowing bubbles across the river. In a unique fusion of drones and pyrotechnics, each bubble blown was burst by the glistening sparks of Titanium Fireworks, kickstarting the celebrations with a bang.

Broadcast live across the country, the wider piece journeyed through pivotal moments of the year, from the King’s Coronation to the anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush generation.

WILDERNESS FESTIVAL

Into the Wild

We were commissioned by Wilderness Festival to design and perform a drone show that would lift the wild spirit of the festival to the skies above. We brought crowds gathered at the Wilderness stage on a journey alike no other, exploring the notion of the wild as it exists in nature, in ourselves and the surrounding world.

Transported by a mystical, drifting hot air balloon, viewers were faced with curious creatures that blur the boundaries of reality and fantasy – from blinking peacock eyelets to a leaping emerald frog, before the story took a wild twist, inviting viewers to look inwards.

A Show Fit for a King

We brought the magic of the natural world to life in skies across the UK for the Coronation Concert. Flying simultaneously above Windsor Castle, Cardiff Bay and the Eden Project on live TV broadcast, we guided millions of viewers across the globe on an award-winning journey of wonder, exploring the intricate beauty of nature and its cruciality in sustaining life on planet Earth. Vibrant three dimensional formations conjured ethereal scenes, from the tranquil elegance of a heron resting by a river, to the watchful eyes of our wise owl. Underpinning the mesmerising visuals, a powerful message called for action, encouraging people across the UK to preserve the planet’s natural beauty and biodiversity.
