ABOUT LINMOB.NET

How it started

  • June 2020: Got a PinePhone
  • Restarted LINMOB.net (as a Jekyll blog on GitHub pages) on June 11th, 2020

How it started

While writing blog posts, I also went through the history and came across a few "Weekly Update" style posts from 2009:

How it started

... and so, on July 4th, 2020, I posted this:

The surprise

I actually managed to keep this up.

Week after week after week.

Linbits went on, iterating the number ++ (almost) every week.

Renaming

Early 2022

1st attempt:

2nd attempt:

bringing it in line with the promotional social media posts

but... controversy:

3rd attempt:

Weekly #MobilePOSIX Update (25/2022): [highlights]

Nice, huh?

final attempt:

Weekly GNU-like Mobile Linux Update (26/2022): [highlights]

... so glad I did not settle on "mobile POSIX"
:-D

Process then

all manual

In the early days, the process evolved to be quite involved and cumbersome.

  • collecting links throughout the week on Twitter, the Fediverse and in a number of chat groups, pasting them into a markdown file
  • go through feeds in miniflux
  • ...
  • broken links due to human markdown writing

Personal crisis...

Process today

Very Automated

THANKS PLATA!

  1. scripts collect relevant content published within specified days
  2. manual search on YouTube and
  3. going through personal boost history (open in new tabs + then use a FF plugin)
  4. checking the pad for contributions of my own and by others
  5. write teaser, publish!

Process today

Very Automated

and slightly crazy due

to my own changes

  • no, I did not count sources
  • we have three different ways to properly deal with feeds:
    • one for regular feeds
    • one for mastodon, stripping rich formatting
    • and one for megi... his feed has no dates, except in the title, so let's use those!
  • still sad about loosing searx instances with feeds

Process today

Very Automated

known room for improvement

Where to go from here?

  1. It would be nice to have more content than the weekly post - co-authors welcome
  2. More text, more comments within "Updates" would be nice ... it's hard
  3. YOUR IDEA HERE

Thanks!
