YOU HAD ME AT
CHALLENGING
Hello and thank you for taking the time to explore my photography portfolio! I’m Michel Mölder, and I’m passionate about creativity, especially when it pushes me out of my comfort zone. I thrive on (technical) challenges, and that’s when my work truly shines.
While I enjoy all types of photography, it's the unique and daring projects that bring out my best. In this deck, you’ll find a variety of my work—photography, cinemagraphs, insights into my workflow, a personal art project, and an exciting look at how I’m integrating AI into my creative process.
Let’s dive in!

INTRODUCTION

WORKFLOW
Not everything is perfect in one shot. By shooting multiple layers with different lighting setups I love to combine the best out of every single take.
This way I can focus on a single element in the frame and make sure it's perfect.
Together we can do this with portraits, products and everything you can think of.

CINEMAGRAPHS
LIVING PHOTOGRAPH PORTFOLIO

You’ve likely noticed by now, some of my photographs are alive. By combining photo and video, I love introducing subtle, seamless motion within a still frame. That gentle, looping movement creates the illusion of endless motion, drawing you in and holding your attention just a little longer.

PRODUCTION

Creating a cinemagraph begins with capturing still images and video footage, much like a traditional photoshoot. I then combine these elements during editing, weaving together moving layers into a smooth, seamless loop.
A well-executed cinemagraph draws your attention like a perfect still frame but has the stopping power of video.

PHOTO ANIMATION

Even a single still frame can come to life. By animating a (stock) photo and layering it with video overlays and dynamic animations, it's possible to create a result that's just as captivating and immersive.

ART PROJECT
CINEMAGRAPH ART PROJECT

In my photo studio, I spent over two years meticulously creating a detailed film set of a worn-down 1980s motel. Fascinated by the stories hidden within these seemingly ordinary and generic rooms, I developed the cinemagraph series Sunshine Royale Motel.
Once the series was complete, all twenty-two cinemagraphs were exhibited at The Hoxton Hotel in Amsterdam, where they were displayed on digital screens provided by Samsung, enhancing the immersive experience.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

I’m always excited to try new techniques and explore creative possibilities. Artificial Intelligence is becoming a key tool in photography, not only making it easier to manage costs by eliminating the need for expensive locations and props but also unlocking new creative potential.
Pushing the limits of what’s possible.

Being a bit of a nerd, I explored AI from its early days. While I was fascinated, I also found it daunting to see how powerful this technology has become. After two years of experimenting and keeping up with the latest developments, I’m now confident that AI is ready for prime time. Today, you can shoot a product photo and effortlessly expand it with various backgrounds. By coaching it in the right way, AI not only combines multiple images but also enhances the blend by adjusting light, reflections, and shadows, creating interactions between foreground and background like never before. It’s a fantastic new tool to have in the box
AI IS READY

JACK OF
ALL TRADES
I was never really able to choose between my passion for photography and video, which ultimately resulted in the combination of the two and my love for cinemagraphs.
Despite my love for Cinemagraphs, my enthusiasm for video remains strong. I actively direct and shoot video projects, constantly seeking fresh ways to bring my ideas to life.
I’m particularly excited about virtual productions, which open up a world of new possibilities. To explore my video work, please visit my portfolio with the link below.

THANK YOU
If you have made it this far you might like what I do. I would love to meet you and talk about your next project. I do like a challenge. And coffee.
