Structure of Trailers

Structural Conventions

Horror Trailers follow a Structure. The first is the opening which establishes setting and introduces character. Then we have a  build up which establishes a relationship; development of characters and their world. We then see a problem  which could be a dilemma or series of complications.    

World War Z

Opening:

Set today - City Landscape

Introduces Main Characters showing them as a normal happy family.                            

Build up:

Explosions and people start to run away from the direction of the explosion. Main Characters are confused as it is not a normal situation that they are usually in. 

 

World War Z

Problem:

Main character is trying to solve what is happening.

Main character trying to get his family to safety.

Humanity is in danger. People are dying fast.   

Main character is separated from family and is trying to get back.           

Events:

Over 4 billion humans have died and more counting and a number of cities are wiped out. Character has to go back to solve the problem as he has sets of skills in which the army want to use. 

 

Scream

Opening:

Introducing a female character and a male unknown character who is calling. 

Set in a family house and in the present day at that time when the film came out.    

Build up:

The unknown male character seems to be really interested in her asking questions. The male character tells that he is looking at her and increases tension. 

 

Scream

Problems:

Jumpcuts of girls running away from the unknown killer. 

The killer then calls other girls in which he knows her name and asks her a similar question to the other one which is "do you like scary movie". Everyone is being hunted and everyone is scared of their lives.

Events:

They are given rules by a guy in which could help them survive a scary movie. But none are listening.

Everyone is trying to find out who is the killer.
