Potential artists.

Intro:

I have decided to show a diverse range of artists we could take inspiration from for our music video. I have decided to focus on 3 different artists which are Sia, Imagine Dragons and James Arthur 

Image/ Style

Sia's style is different from artists that focus around pop genre. she wears over sized wigs with long fringes to hide her facial features except her mouth. 

James Arthur Normally wears trendy clothing such as skinny jeans. He also has a haircut that is quite common in male fashion. 

Imagine Dragons is known for their quirky style of clothing. With them wearing suits, Leathers and going for a punk/ Indie like vibe. Their prominent colour is black.

Types of Videos:

Sia's music videos always have a performance however, she is seen only in a few of the videos due to her USP (hiding her identity so the audience can focus on her videos and vocals.) she also has different views in her videos that can be controversial to some people. For example, The music video for elastic heart with shia la beouf.

James arthurs music video mostly contain performances from himself to show off himself as an artist to gain a wider audience. One of his music videos is about his journey through X- Factor (A Television show) due to him coming 1st in 2012. This can show his new audience to what heeded in the past and how he was recognised.

Like James Arthur, Imagine Dragons have  a lot of performance videos mixed with narrative, Like in the music video "Radioactive" where it was about illegal fighting ring with soft toys and to free the band members. This is to show their audience the they focus on narrative, they also have relatable topics, like Nostalgic music videos like "Roots"

Platforms:

They all have a Vevo account on youtube but they also have physical copies of their albums as well as digital copies. However, their styles of how they present themselves is very different. They all link and promote all their other forms of social media.

Sia shows all of her tracks from all her albums, her singles will have music videos and different thumbnails to the others where they are presented with the albums cover art. She also shows behind the scenes from some of her takes in music videos and has an interview with her.

James arthur shows all his music videos through Vevo on youtube, Some of them are where he's in the studio making the song which shows the work that goes on behind the scenes.

Imagine Dragons showcase their music videos, their album tracks and soundtracks for movies like Me Before You and Passengers. This will gain more of an audience because of carton songs being used in

Performance:

In the past, Sia used to do performances with her included in the video. However, with her change in USP, she changed it so she isn't involved in the song however, she has dancers to perform for her to convey a message.

James arthur features in his music videos as the main performer in his videos due to him being an upcoming new artist. So to gain more of an audience, it is better to have the artist in the music video.

They show different parts of their tours in some of their music videos and some of them have a narrative where they're a part of the story.

Social Media:

Sia's social media is dedicated for positivity, promotion, shout outs to people she knows and even some pictures and some things to promote other peoples achievements as well.

With James being so young, He is mostly social on his social media and even showing things behind the scenes so

people that follow him will get an "exclusive" behind the scenes footage.

Imagine dragons shows their audience separate members of the bands life, mostly the lead singer and also showing trailers and funny videos on twitter gains more of an audience for them.

Synergies:

Both Sia and Maddie Ziegler are both working together in a series of music videos like Chandelier, Elastic Heart, The Greatest and Big Girls Cry, both people that are fans will gain more popularity for both of them.

Imagine dragons have their Tracks showcased in Films like Me before you and Passengers. So this is to be intended for a completely new audience than what the demographic is for listening to imagine dragons. This can be used to gain more of an audience through using it in different genres of films.

At this point in his music career, James arthur has not got any synergies in any of his latest work. However, for when he won Factor in 2012, On his single, he put  X factor logo on the box to indicate he competed on the show.

Demographics:

I used Yougov.co.uk to find out the different demographics for each artist/band and they came back with individual results that varied. They changed in political standpoint, Favourite celebrities and other facts about their fans which can affect their target audience.

For Imagine Dragons, their demographic fits the Indie/ Rock type of music by having certain aspects like most of their listeners are of a young age, their political standpoint is Left and a comedian known to have a young aged audience (Russel Howard)

Sia's Demographics are shown being a young audience with the majority of the audience being Female along with a left wing political view. Most of the TV shows and all the past times are mostly relatable to a young audience. TV shows like Goggle Box and First Dates are also targeted to a young Audience.

James Arthur's Audience aspires to mostly women of a young age. They mostly have a right wing political stand with a mix of different activities and a mix of different activities ranging from different target ages.

What have I learnt?

I have learnt that every artist has to approach their intended audience by linking with their other interests as well so it shows they're relatable to things that their audience like. Changing their USP and their look is a good way to maintain their audience and engage them more because it shows the progression of the artist.
