What is a
Server Environment??
Local
A server that is hosted locally on your own computer. Files that are contained on one of your drives or folders.
Remote
hosted away from your computer - a server that you have to connect to. A common example - a paid hosting option like A1 Hosting, WPEngine or Flywheel.

Why use a Local Server Environment?
Advantages:

Less pressure on making mistakes on edits and updates to the live site.
- Doesn't effect other team members who are also working on the site.
- Don't need the internet to work on the some of the code
