ANALYSING THE RESULTS FROM MY QUESTIONNAIRES

There were many reasons for carrying out the
questionnaires but obviously the main reason
was to discover what people like to watch
and why. We need to realise what our target
audience want to see otherwise we could
create an opening sequence that everyone
would hate and this would mean we wont
achieve our task.

When handing out my questionnaires I decided to give five to
males and five to females therefore I could get equal feedback
about what both genders would like to see. It wouldn't have been very good it I had asked 8 females and 2males because I wouldn't have got a valid sample. As well as this we decided our target audience would be 16-20 because this is normally the age group that are interested in going to see thriller films and the genre who get excited by it. They enjoy getting scared or trying to discover out who did what in the film. After deciding on this year group I decided to focus on giving my questionnaire to people in this age category so I could discover exactly what they think.

It was interesting to see what type of genres people like to
watch. We gave a few options for them to choose from and it
was clear a lot like comedy's and horrors and then thrillers. This
could be seen as negative feedback because it may be
suggesting that our opening sequence wont draw the attention
of our audience. However I believe it could be down to the
individual personalities of the participants or the fact that they
don't know exactly what a thriller is or they might not have seen
a particularly good one. Therefore we can use this information
and try to make ours interesting and something our audience
would want to watch again and again.

In addition we enquired as to how often people watch films. I would say this information isn't essential into the making of our opening sequence but it will help us discover how to target our audience especially with the answers from another question asking the participants how they watch films. For example it
is clear a lot of people watch films online and less watch them on DVDs now so if we found a way to publish our opening sequence online it would most likely attract a wider audience. Additionally we wanted to learn about how important the actual opening sequence is to the viewer and whether they
actually take notice to it.

Finally we wanted to discover what the participants
actually classed as a thriller and what type of characters
they would expect to see and what location. Most answers
were someone who is scary, quite mysterious and creepy
however some did say handsome which may be different
to what other people would say. Then everyone typically
said Haunted house and abandoned places for the
location. This displays that people want a thriller to be
scary and know the characters should be intimidating
therefore we need to take on board all this advice and
make our opening sequence the best it could be.
