LinkedIn’s CR icon
What the panel lists, and what a file clean can change before the next upload.
What the icon is
A signed C2PA record that traveled with the upload. LinkedIn’s help center also calls it the C2PA icon. Photos from a camera, and stories from a newsroom, can carry the same kind of record. It is not a separate decision that the picture is AI-generated. LinkedIn says the rollout is gradual, so some accounts do not see the icon yet.
What a click shows
- The signer’s assertion, including whether that signer says AI was used to generate or edit any part
- The app or device
- Who created the media
- Who issued and signed the credential
- The date and time it was issued
That assertion is the issuer’s statement. The cleaner does not re-judge it.
A missing icon is silence
LinkedIn says it is not yet possible to identify and label all AI-generated and modified content. A missing icon is not a finding that a person made the picture.
A crop does not remove a live post
Caption edits, alt text, and a crop inside the composer change the post LinkedIn keeps. They do not hand back the original container. A post already stored keeps the icon until you replace the upload. There is no account setting that strips every future image. Video, PDF, and Campaign Manager are outside this cleaner. A cloud copy of a credential is not in the local file.
The file to clean
Drop the JPEG, PNG, or WebP you will attach. A screenshot of the CR icon is the wrong file. An iPhone HEIC works here and comes back as a clean JPEG.
Set the mode to AI only (the select label is AI provenance / C2PA / AI metadata). Press Inspect only to look. Press Clean this file to strip. The After column is a new scan of the cleaned bytes. Download only after the C2PA row is gone. The name ends in -cleaned.
What a clean does not do
SynthID and TrustMark stay in the pixels. Cleaning does not guarantee a platform label disappears. One image is free. Pro is $9.99 once, not a subscription. The next image needs Pro.
