Brody, the Jock
Character
Brody's character consists of the typical Jock. This stereotypical character was first identified in 'The Breakfast Club' in 1985 as 'The Athlete.'
This character specialises in sports. He is usually of rough and aggressive nature, almost a little primitive.
He is very charming and well built. Brody lacks intelligence but makes up for that in his sports. He is very popular in school and gains a lot of female attention. His character is set to oppose Reggie's character through binary oppositions. He bullies Reggie as he is obviously a nerd. Jocks tend to bully the weak and use their build and physical strength as a defence mechanism against anyone who undermines them.
This is a jersey. It is extremely typical of the Jock's attire. It represents the characters sports interest. We thought we'd make the character of Brody wear the jersey very messily which illustrates his rough, animalistic nature. It also makes the oppositions within mise en scene between Reggie (the nerd) and him much clearer as Reggie very neatly dressed.
These clothes add to Brody's slightly 'gangster' look as it is full of "swag" which is typical of the Jock's character. By swag, I mean very stylish with sportswear and mainstream style for young males on the streets. His clothes are all worn loosely. He is far from feminine and won't do anything that suggests femininity. His jacket is Nike which also adds to his characters sportsman look as Nike is a brand that sells sportswear.
